India’s Overseas M&A Push Accelerates as Companies Secure Global Supply Chains

Indian companies are accelerating overseas acquisitions as geopolitical risk turns control over supply chains, energy and critical materials into a strategic corporate priority.

Outbound mergers and acquisitions by Indian companies have already reached nearly $24 billion in 2026 and are on pace for a record year.

Total Indian M&A crossed $100 billion across 680 transactions during the first half of the year.

Indian companies increasingly have both the financial capacity to pursue acquisitions and access to equity and debt markets needed to finance them.

Supply-chain resilience is becoming one of the major drivers.

Indian companies are examining investments that can secure energy and strategic minerals as governments increasingly treat critical resources as instruments of economic and geopolitical leverage. Discussions connected to Canada, for example, include potential Indian investment in LNG and critical-mineral projects.

The trend is already visible in large transactions. Sun Pharmaceutical’s announced $11.75 billion all-cash acquisition of U.S.-based Organon is among the major outbound deals contributing to this year’s total.

The M&A strength contrasts with a slower Indian IPO market. Completed IPOs totaled about $9.9 billion across 194 companies through September 21, compared with $21.8 billion during all of 2025, although large offerings could lift activity.

For markets, the important shift is strategic.

Indian corporate globalization is increasingly about securing assets and inputs rather than simply expanding geographic reach. If that continues, energy infrastructure, mining, pharmaceuticals and industrial supply chains could become increasingly important targets for Indian capital.
