Alphabet reported third-quarter revenue of $127.6 billion Wednesday as explosive growth in Google Cloud demonstrated the continuing strength of demand for artificial-intelligence infrastructure.
Revenue increased 25% from a year earlier, marking Alphabet’s 13th consecutive quarter of double-digit revenue growth. Google Services revenue increased 11% to $96.3 billion.
Google Cloud delivered the strongest growth, with revenue surging 103% to $30.7 billion. The division benefited from enterprise AI infrastructure, AI applications and core Google Cloud Platform services.
Sales of Google’s internally developed Tensor Processing Unit systems also became a meaningful contributor to revenue growth, strengthening Alphabet’s position in the increasingly competitive market for AI computing infrastructure.
The results illustrate both the scale of the AI investment cycle and Alphabet’s unusual position within it. Unlike many technology companies, Google develops its own AI accelerators while simultaneously selling cloud computing capacity to outside customers.
That strategy gives Alphabet another potential source of revenue while reducing its dependence on third-party processors for portions of its own infrastructure.
The central question now is whether Google Cloud can maintain its extraordinary growth as Alphabet continues committing enormous amounts of capital to data centers, processors and networking infrastructure.
Investors will be watching whether AI-related revenue can expand quickly enough to support those investments while protecting cash generation and profitability.
