London Stock Exchange Group has agreed to acquire credit-data provider Octus for $3.535 billion, expanding its position in specialized financial information and private-credit markets.
LSEG plans to purchase Octus from funds advised by Permira and the company’s management, including founder Kent Collier.
Octus provides credit-market intelligence focused particularly on private, illiquid and distressed credit, producing specialized information used by financial institutions and investors.
The acquisition addresses an increasingly important strategic question for financial-data companies: which information remains valuable when artificial-intelligence systems can retrieve and analyze enormous quantities of widely available material.
LSEG is betting that proprietary specialist datasets will become more valuable rather than less.
The company also raised its 2026 outlook following strong third-quarter performance, including its expectations for revenue growth, EBITDA margin and free cash flow.
LSEG expects the Octus acquisition to significantly expand its presence in private and public credit information.
Combining Octus with LSEG’s existing fixed-income data and analytics would give customers access to information spanning public, private, illiquid and distressed credit markets.
The deal arrives as financial institutions rapidly experiment with generative AI and integrate the technology into research, risk management and investment workflows.
For established financial-information companies, that creates both a threat and an opportunity.
AI can reduce the cost of analyzing information, potentially weakening businesses built around widely available data. But companies controlling proprietary datasets that are difficult to reproduce may be able to use AI to make those assets more useful and valuable.
LSEG’s $3.535 billion acquisition is therefore more than an expansion into private credit. It represents a substantial bet that specialized proprietary financial information will become increasingly important as AI changes how investors consume and analyze data.
