Blue Owl Capital reported stronger-than-expected third-quarter earnings Thursday as fundraising accelerated and assets under management reached a record $330 billion.
Adjusted distributable earnings reached 24 cents per share, up from 22 cents a year earlier and above analysts’ expectations.
The alternative-asset manager raised $12.6 billion in new commitments during the quarter, bringing fundraising over the latest 12 months to nearly $50 billion.
The company described the quarter as a record period for institutional capital raising, with inflows broadening across strategies, investors and regions.
Blue Owl’s expansion spans credit, real assets and GP strategic capital.
The company has also been increasing its exposure to digital infrastructure, including data centers, placing part of its growth strategy directly inside the enormous capital cycle surrounding artificial intelligence.
That opportunity comes with a second side.
Investors are increasingly scrutinizing whether the billions flowing into data centers and other AI infrastructure will produce sufficient returns. Private-credit managers also face questions about whether AI disruption could weaken some technology borrowers and eventually affect credit performance.
Blue Owl originated approximately $5.2 billion of direct-lending investments during the quarter, while deployment declined by roughly $300 million.
The company declared a quarterly dividend of 23 cents per Class A share.
The results show institutional demand for private markets remains strong even as investors become more selective about credit risk and AI-related capital spending.
The next question is whether record fundraising can translate into attractive deployment opportunities without forcing managers to compromise underwriting standards.
