Amazon is in discussions to acquire artificial-intelligence startup Decart in a transaction that could value the company at approximately $7 billion, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The negotiations were reported Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter. Reuters said it could not independently verify the report, meaning the potential acquisition remains under discussion rather than an agreed transaction.
Decart develops artificial-intelligence technology including systems capable of generating and modifying video and creating simulated environments.
Its technology also addresses an increasingly important problem in the AI industry: allowing developers to operate across different types of AI computing hardware as companies seek alternatives to relying exclusively on a single chip architecture.
The potential acquisition comes as Amazon continues expanding its artificial-intelligence investments across cloud infrastructure, models and applications.
Decart has also attracted interest from other major AI companies. Anthropic previously considered acquiring the startup for approximately $6 billion before deciding against the transaction.
A successful Amazon deal would therefore represent another significant step in the consolidation of AI technology, talent and infrastructure among the world’s largest technology companies.
Investors will now watch for confirmation of a definitive agreement, the final valuation and how Amazon might integrate Decart’s technology into AWS and its broader AI strategy.
