U.S. stocks closed higher Friday and broke a four-day losing streak after hotter-than-expected core consumer prices, as a Friday oil fade helped cushion risk. Official closes from CNBC boards matching Associated Press levels put the S&P 500 at 7,656.98, up 0.86%; the Dow Jones Industrial Average at 52,573.29, up 0.98%; and the Nasdaq Composite at 26,333.04, up 0.96%. AP rounded those moves to about 0.9%, 1%, and 1%.
The S&P opened and printed its session low at 7,636.75; the Dow opened and printed its low at 52,204.46. The Nasdaq low of 26,283.11 sat below its open of 26,289.41. Session highs were above the closes: S&P 7,677.02, Dow 52,720.24, Nasdaq 26,431.22. Finishes pared a midday Motley Fool stamp near 7,672 for the S&P. CME FedWatch odds cited by Kiplinger and CNBC clustered near 86% to 87% for a September hike, up from roughly 71% to 72% a day earlier.
