Dutch TTF front-month gas spiked as high as €80.99 per megawatt-hour on Wednesday, Bloomberg and AFP said, the highest since January 2023 and the first breach above €80 in that span. High is not last. AFP put the contract at €79.21, up 4.4%, at 1440 GMT after the spike. Reuters put a later last near €79.28 after a €80.98 touch. A WSJ print near €78.72 is not the session high. Drivers include Middle East LNG transit risk via Hormuz and weak European storage refill. The IEA’s Wednesday Gas Reserve Mechanisms report said governments should consider strategic reserves, more flexible contracts, and cooperation complementary to commercial storage. Those are recommendations, not an EU mandate. Euronews said markets nearly fully priced a 25 basis-point ECB deposit-rate move Thursday after August eurozone inflation at 3.3% on energy. Upgrades the earlier multi-year-high tape.
