Google said Wednesday it will invest at least €13 billion in Finnish AI infrastructure over 2027 and 2028, its largest single Europe investment, covering data centers and sites in Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala. Reuters put about $15.1 billion as an FX gloss; the primary commitment remains at least €13 billion.
Fortum signed a 22-year power purchase agreement with Google that starts smaller in 2028 and reaches up to about 50% of Loviisa nuclear capacity in 2030 through 2049, supporting plant life through 2050. Ruth Porat called it Google’s first nuclear deal outside the United States, Reuters said. A memorandum also covers new nuclear, renewables, flexibility, and a Google-contracted 94 MW battery near Kajaani. Google estimates construction could add about €3.6 billion a year to Finland GDP and support more than 37,000 jobs; those are company estimates, not official stats. Fortum shares rose 15.5%, Reuters said.
