U.S. Central Command said American forces destroyed five IRGC-linked crude oil tankers on Sep. 8 after Iran twice tried to hit a U.S. Navy warship with ballistic missiles. CENTCOM named M/T Kaviz, Charminar, Horizon 1, and Riesco in the Gulf of Oman and M/T Derya near Kharg Island, saying crews were directed to abandon ship before the vessels were rendered inoperable. No American personnel were harmed, CENTCOM said. A Sep. 5 action had destroyed three Iranian carriers after similar threats.

Iran claimed missile strikes on the Al-Azraq base in Jordan. Jordan Armed Forces said they engaged 20 ballistic missiles, intercepted 18, and that two fell in unpopulated areas with no casualties. A U.S. official told NBC the Iranian response was ineffective.

The IRGC also claimed damage to U.S. warships and other vessels. Those assertions are Iranian claims only and were not confirmed by the United States. This package is distinct from Houthi or Saudi facility reporting.
