Apple on Wednesday unveiled its first foldable phone, the passport-shaped iPhone Duo, starting at $1,999 in the United States for the 256GB model. Reuters said the device opens to a horizontal 7.6-inch-diagonal screen and uses Apple’s A20 Pro chip plus a new Apple-designed C2 modem, continuing the move away from Qualcomm wireless silicon. Higher storage tiers run through $3,199 for 2TB, per MacRumors.
New CEO John Ternus led the Cupertino keynote after Tim Cook opened the presentation. Alongside Duo, Apple raised iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max starting prices to $1,199 and $1,299, up $100 from the 17 Pro lineup. MacRumors and AppleInsider reported U.S. pre-orders begin Friday, Oct. 16, with availability Friday, Oct. 23 in the United States and more than 70 countries, plus further markets on Oct. 30. Reuters said shares rose less than 1 percent after the event. Apple also claimed about 24 hours of mixed dual-screen use and a 50 percent charge in roughly 20 minutes; those are company claims.
