AMD Crosses $1 Trillion as AI Chip Rally Accelerates

AMD briefly crossed $1 trillion in market capitalization for the first time Monday, marking another milestone in the extraordinary revaluation of companies supplying the artificial-intelligence computing boom.

AMD shares climbed about 9% to roughly $610 after reaching an all-time high of $613.92, temporarily lifting the chipmaker’s valuation above the trillion-dollar threshold. The stock has risen roughly 185% during 2026, compared with a gain of about 15.8% for the Nasdaq.

The move makes AMD the fourth U.S. semiconductor company to cross $1 trillion, following Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron. The broader chip sector also rallied Monday, with Intel rising roughly 11% and Qualcomm gaining about 4%.

AMD’s transformation increasingly extends beyond selling individual processors. The company has been expanding toward complete AI computing systems combining processors, networking equipment and related hardware as it competes for spending traditionally dominated by Nvidia.

Demand for CPUs operating alongside graphics processors in AI inference servers has also strengthened AMD’s position in data centers.

The milestone comes as markets reassess whether AI infrastructure can continue delivering growth despite higher interest rates, energy pressures and broader economic uncertainty.

AMD’s valuation suggests investors remain willing to pay heavily for companies positioned directly inside the AI infrastructure buildout.

But the trillion-dollar threshold also raises the execution bar. AMD must convert growing demand for AI accelerators, server processors and integrated systems into revenue and earnings capable of supporting its dramatically higher valuation.

For markets, the important signal extends beyond AMD itself. Monday’s rally shows that investor appetite for AI infrastructure remains powerful enough to drive another semiconductor company into the trillion-dollar club even as capital costs remain elevated.
