Constellation Energy Generation agreed to acquire 100% of RISEC Holdings, owner of the Rhode Island State Energy Center, from Shell Energy North America for $715 million, subject to customary purchase-price adjustments, the companies said Sept. 10. The Johnston, R.I., gas combined-cycle plant can generate up to 609 MW and sells into ISO New England. It has been in service since 2002.
Separately, Shell will acquire 100% of Hunlock Creek Generating, which owns 169 MW of Pennsylvania gas-fired capacity: 125 MW combined-cycle plus a 44 MW simple-cycle peaker. The seller is Riverview Power Holdings, an indirect Castleton Commodities International unit.
Constellation said RISEC is expected to be immediately accretive to operating earnings. Net of expected first-year tax benefits, the purchase is about $580 million. Both deals need regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and are expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.
