U.S. final-demand producer prices rose 0.4% in August seasonally adjusted and 5.4% over the prior 12 months unadjusted, according to the BLS lead carried verbatim on Forex Factory and matched by CNBC. July’s monthly reading was revised to a 0.1% gain from unchanged. Goods rose 1.1% and services 0.1%. Final demand less foods, energy, and trade services rose 0.3%. CNBC said core prices excluding food and energy rose 0.2% versus a roughly 0.3% forecast; that series is not the trade-services-ex measure. MoM matched the roughly 0.4% Reuters and Dow Jones consensus cited by CNBC.

Figures are from wire reports carrying the BLS release, including Forex Factory and CNBC. Reuters had estimated about 5.3% YoY while FactSet awaited 5.4%; the actual 5.4% beat the Reuters estimate and matched FactSet. Prior July YoY was about 4.7%, so the annual rate re-accelerated. This is the U.S. August print, not China PPI coverage.
