Venture Global Lines Up 16 Off-Grid Power Units for LNG Expansion and Future AI Data Centers

Venture Global has reached agreements with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes covering as many as 16 new power-generation units as the LNG producer expands its ability to generate electricity independently of the public grid.

The agreements cover up to 16 power-island units rated at 720 megawatts each, together with associated transformer equipment. Venture Global says the framework could support more than 10 gigawatts of additional island-mode power capacity.

The infrastructure would support Venture Global’s existing LNG operations while also creating the potential for large data centers located alongside its energy facilities.

The strategy addresses one of the largest constraints facing the artificial-intelligence industry: electricity availability.

Rapid growth in AI computing is increasing demand for data centers at the same time utilities face transmission constraints and lengthy grid-interconnection queues. Developers are increasingly examining dedicated generation that can provide electricity without waiting years for conventional grid expansion.

Venture Global already operates power infrastructure supporting its LNG facilities, making large-scale independent electricity generation a potential extension of its existing business.

The agreements do not mean all 16 units will immediately be constructed. Instead, they create a framework allowing Venture Global to expand generation as LNG and potential data-center requirements develop.

The broader market implication extends beyond one LNG producer. Electricity generation, natural-gas availability and access to dedicated power infrastructure are increasingly becoming strategic assets in the global AI buildout.

Investors will now watch how rapidly Venture Global orders and deploys the additional equipment and whether AI data centers become a significant business alongside the company’s LNG operations.
