Audi Plans First U.S. Factory in Georgia as Volkswagen Deepens American Manufacturing Push

Audi is preparing to establish its first manufacturing plant in the United States, with the Volkswagen-owned premium automaker planning a factory in Georgia as it expands its North American production footprint.

The planned investment represents a major strategic shift for Audi, which unlike several of its German rivals has historically relied heavily on imported vehicles to serve the U.S. market.

The move would give Audi a domestic manufacturing base in one of the world’s most important premium-vehicle markets and place production closer to American customers.

The project also comes as automakers reconsider global manufacturing networks in response to tariffs, supply-chain risks and government pressure to increase domestic production.

For Volkswagen Group, additional U.S. manufacturing could reduce some of the risks associated with importing vehicles from Europe and Mexico while giving the company greater flexibility in responding to changes in American trade policy.

Georgia has become an increasingly important center for automotive and battery manufacturing, attracting billions of dollars of investment from global automakers and suppliers.

Audi’s entry would add another major European manufacturer to that expanding industrial base.

The strategic importance extends beyond a single factory. Automakers are increasingly being forced to decide where vehicles should be built based not only on labor and logistics costs but also on tariffs, government incentives and access to regional supply chains.

Local production could therefore become increasingly important to Audi’s ability to compete with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla and other premium manufacturers in the United States.

The next details to watch will be the project’s investment size, planned production capacity, construction schedule and the models Audi intends to manufacture at the Georgia facility.
