TSMC Posts Record $46.7 Billion Quarter as AI Chip Demand Drives 50% Revenue Surge

TSMC generated record third-quarter revenue of approximately NT$1.49 trillion, or $46.7 billion, as global demand for artificial-intelligence computing continued driving semiconductor spending.

Revenue increased roughly 50% from the same period last year and exceeded an LSEG SmartEstimate of NT$1.46 trillion.

September provided another strong month for the world’s largest contract chipmaker.

TSMC reported September revenue of approximately NT$511.9 billion, extending the extraordinary expansion associated with spending on advanced computing infrastructure.

For the first nine months of 2026, the company’s revenue reached roughly NT$3.9 trillion.

The numbers matter because TSMC occupies one of the most important positions in the global AI supply chain.

The company manufactures advanced processors for customers including Nvidia and Apple, making its revenue trajectory an important indicator of actual semiconductor demand behind the broader AI investment boom.

The third-quarter performance provides investors with another measurable signal that enormous capital spending directed toward AI infrastructure continues translating into semiconductor revenue.

But the market reaction was considerably more cautious.

TSMC shares fell in premarket U.S. trading despite the record sales figures, while several other major semiconductor stocks also declined.

That divergence reflects a growing debate on Wall Street.

Investors are no longer questioning whether AI infrastructure spending is enormous. Instead, they are increasingly asking whether the returns generated by that spending will ultimately justify the extraordinary amounts of capital being committed.

Concerns have also emerged over the amount of debt financing potentially required to sustain the expansion.

For TSMC, the next major test will come with its complete quarterly results, when investors receive additional information on profitability, margins, advanced-node demand and management’s outlook.

For now, the revenue figures demonstrate that underlying semiconductor demand remains exceptionally strong even as financial markets become more selective about how they value the AI boom.
