Bank of England Agents soft labour; markets lean Sept 17 hold at 3.75%

Bank of England Agents’ September summary shows employment intentions remain broadly flat and recruitment difficulties a little below normal, with modest spare capacity still present. Intelligence gathered in the six weeks to mid-August will feed the September Monetary Policy Committee. Cumulative average 2026 pay settlements stand near 3.6%, ticked up from 3.5%, mainly reflecting newly collected April settlements, the Agents said.

Current Bank Rate is 3.75%. The next MPC announcement is Thursday, Sept. 17, when the Monetary Policy Summary and minutes are due at 12:00 UK time. Markets lean toward a hold at 3.75% that day. ING economists expect another 6-3 vote to keep rates unchanged; that split is a forecast, not the September result.

ONS labour-market figures land Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 07:00 BST, then August CPI Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 07:00 BST, ahead of the Bank decision Thursday. Soft labour and a hold lean define the week path; the decision itself remains unsettled.

Sources: Bank of England Agents’ summary September 2026 (published Sept 11: employment intentions broadly flat; recruitment difficulties a little below normal; 2026 pay settlements ~3.6%); ING THINK Sept 11 (Smith/Tukker/Turner: expect hold at 3.75% with another 6-3 vote forecast); ONS UK Labour Market September 2026 release page (Tue Sept 15 07:00 BST); ONS Consumer price inflation UK August 2026 release page (Wed Sept 16 07:00 BST); Bank of England September 2026 MPC page (Summary and minutes to be published at 12:00 UK on Sept 17); Clearly Investments Sunday wrap Sept 13 (UK week framing; hold lean).
