U.S. 10-year Treasury yields retreated from a near-5% spike after the August consumer price index, while the 2-year stayed firm into Federal Open Market Committee week. Reuters Instant View said the 10-year earlier hit about 4.98% before easing 2.4 basis points to 4.92%. Channel News Asia put a brief high at 4.9915%, among the highest in almost three years, before a softer mid-session path near 4.94%.

The session high near 4.98% to 4.99% is not the last print. TradingKey similarly tagged a 4.979% high then about 4.918%. Do not read the high as the live yield.

The 2-year was firmer on the day. Reuters Instant View put it up 4.4 basis points at 4.594% after an earlier 8.8-basis-point spike. Associated Press mid-morning color had the 2-year near 4.61% from about 4.56% Thursday, and CNBC said the note reached levels not seen in more than two years. The move is a Friday post-print curve path, not a futures odds rewrite.
