The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s September Short-Term Energy Outlook, released Sep. 9, raised its 2026 and 2027 oil price forecasts versus the August STEO, EIA primary tables show. Annual average Brent is now $91.01 for 2026 and $73.74 for 2027. Annual average WTI is $84.65 for 2026 and $69.74 for 2027. Those annual averages are not the spot or futures prints above $100 that dominate session price-action packages.
EIA said global oil inventories have decreased by about 400 million barrels so far this year, with further draws expected through end-2026. The outlook text points to Brent near about $90 a barrel in the second half of 2026, then a gradual path toward about $74 in 2027 as production rises and inventories rebuild. Some Middle East export constraints are assumed to persist through end-2026 in the STEO framing. This package is the official forecast revision, distinct from Brent breach and Wednesday settle stories.
