The British maritime security agency UKMTO said Sunday a vessel was struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire and forcing crew evacuation. UKMTO received the initial report at 2300 GMT Saturday, Anadolu Agency reported. Attacker identity remains unknown.
Separately, Iranian authorities said one person was killed and four crew were wounded aboard an Iranian commercial vessel struck near Qeshm, Reuters and AP reported. Anadolu Agency separately cited three injured. Reuters presents the UKMTO report and Iran’s fatality account without equating them as one confirmed ship; the incidents are treated here as possibly distinct.
A regional meeting in Oman between Gulf countries and Iran on possible Hormuz agreements, scheduled for Monday, has been postponed. Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said late Sunday the meeting was delayed in the interests of consensus, Reuters reported. Iranian officials said a new date will be coordinated.
