U.S. stocks traded lower in Thursday mid-session action after hot producer prices and oil above $100. At 10:15 a.m. ET, AP reported the Dow down 296 points, or 0.6%, with the S&P 500 off 0.6% and the Nasdaq off 0.8%. The 10-year Treasury yield was about 4.91%, up from 4.83% late Wednesday, AP said. Figures are mid-session prints, not closing levels.
Traders priced roughly 70% odds of a 25 basis-point Federal Reserve hike at the Sep. 15-16 FOMC, up from about 61% on Wednesday, according to CME FedWatch as cited by AP, CNN, and CNBC. August PPI rose 0.4% month over month and 5.4% year over year, covered separately.
Friday’s consumer price index is the next calendar beat into the Sep. 15-16 FOMC week. Oil above $100 weighed on equities as a catalyst alongside the jump in hike odds. CNN put the 10-year near 4.93% in a separate update; prefer the last near 4.91% to 4.92%, and treat session highs as distinct from lasts.
