Reuters said U.S. stocks closed lower Wednesday as oil settled back above $100 and traders braced for Thursday’s producer-price data and Friday’s consumer-price report before the September Fed meeting. The Dow finished at 52,380.66, down 0.77%. The S&P 500 closed at 7,636.36, down 0.48%, after an open that matched the session high at 7,660.68. The Nasdaq ended at 26,253.34, down 0.64%. Those are cash closes from Reuters percentages matched to CNBC and post-market tape levels.
AP and Reuters said Brent crude settled at $101.21, up $3.29, or 3.4%, with WTI at $96.05. A delayed Brent last near $101.66 after the settle is not the official settle. AAA, via AP and Reuters, put U.S. regular gasoline around $4.22 a gallon and diesel at about $5.94, a fresh nominal high. Fed hike odds vary by wire; this package omits a single FedWatch percentage and flags PPI and CPI as the near-term calendar. Upgrades the early-slip tape.
