TPG is in talks to acquire British data-center operator Ark Data Centres from Elliott Investment Management at a valuation of approximately $5 billion.

Discussions remain ongoing, and there is no guarantee a transaction will be completed.

Ark operates 27 data centers across the United Kingdom and Belgium and has become one of Europe’s larger independent digital-infrastructure operators.

The company also has an important government connection through Crown Hosting Data Centres, a joint venture with the UK Cabinet Office that provides data-center services for public-sector requirements.

Elliott first invested in Ark in 2012 and had previously been exploring strategic options for the business.

A transaction near $5 billion would illustrate the enormous amount of capital moving into physical infrastructure supporting cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Global data-center transactions have reached approximately $89.4 billion in 2026, already about 50% above the total recorded during all of 2025, according to Synergy Research Group figures. A $5 billion Ark transaction would rank among the largest data-center deals globally this year.

The investment thesis behind the sector is straightforward: AI workloads require enormous quantities of computing capacity, and that demand translates into requirements for buildings, electricity, cooling, networking and grid connections.

But the sector also carries execution risks. Power availability has become a major constraint for data-center developers in several markets, meaning physical infrastructure and grid access can be as important as demand for computing itself.

For TPG, Ark would substantially expand its exposure to European digital infrastructure.

The next development to watch is whether negotiations produce a definitive agreement and whether the final valuation holds near the reported $5 billion level.
