Deutsche Bank Raises Revenue Outlook as Third-Quarter Profit Beats Forecasts

Deutsche Bank reported better-than-expected third-quarter profit and raised its full-year revenue outlook as strength in retail and corporate banking helped offset weaker investment-banking activity.

Net profit attributable to shareholders reached approximately €1.59 billion, increasing from €1.56 billion a year earlier and exceeding analysts’ expectations of roughly €1.44 billion.

The German lender now expects full-year group revenue to exceed €33 billion, improving on its previous guidance of approximately €33 billion.

The results provide evidence that diversified European banks can continue expanding earnings even as conditions become more difficult across capital markets.

Deutsche Bank’s investment bank remained its largest revenue contributor, although activity weakened from unusually strong prior-year levels.

Investment-bank revenue declined about 2%, while fixed-income and currency trading revenue fell approximately 3% from the previous year’s strong performance.

Retail and corporate banking helped compensate for that weakness.

The mix matters because European banks are navigating an increasingly complicated interest-rate environment.

Higher rates can increase lending margins, but they also raise funding costs and can weaken demand for mortgages, corporate loans and other credit.

Capital-market businesses face separate pressures as geopolitical uncertainty and market volatility affect issuance, trading and dealmaking.

Deutsche Bank’s results indicate that diversified revenue streams are helping absorb some of those pressures.

Investors will now watch whether the bank can exceed its upgraded revenue target while maintaining credit quality and controlling expenses.
