Meta’s upcoming third-quarter results are emerging as an important test of investor confidence in artificial intelligence after a sharp technology selloff erased hundreds of billions of dollars from sector valuations.
Nvidia alone lost more than $350 billion in market value last week, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell more than 11% and the Nasdaq 100 dropped about 5.5%.
The decline reflects a change in investor focus.
Markets are no longer rewarding AI spending automatically. Investors increasingly want evidence that extraordinary expenditure on chips, data centers and computing infrastructure is producing equally strong revenue and profit growth.
Meta is expected to report third-quarter revenue above $63 billion, while adjusted operating income is forecast around $18.8 billion.
Its results will arrive before earnings from Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon, giving Meta an early opportunity to shape sentiment toward the broader hyperscaler AI investment cycle.
The most important numbers will therefore extend beyond headline revenue.
Investors will be watching AI-related capital expenditure, operating margins, advertising growth and management’s assessment of when infrastructure spending will translate into additional earnings.
