Private survey points to a Saudi-led drop ahead of OPEC’s Monthly Oil Market Report on Thursday and the IEA Oil Market Report on Friday.

A Bloomberg survey published Tuesday, Sep. 8, estimated OPEC crude production fell by 900,000 barrels a day in August to an average of 19.91 million barrels a day, snapping a two-month recovery. The survey’s lede attributed the decline mainly to Saudi output curbed by threats to both of the kingdom’s export routes, with a Saudi drop of just over 1 million barrels a day only marginally offset by gains in Iraq and Venezuela.
The figures are a Bloomberg production survey, not an official OPEC print. Absolute Saudi levels beyond the lede were not independently verified behind the paywall. Production surveys measure a different thing than tanker or export-flow trackers.
OPEC’s Monthly Oil Market Report is due Thursday, Sep. 10. The International Energy Agency’s Oil Market Report for September is scheduled for Friday, Sep. 11, at 10:00 Paris time. Those agency releases will show how August supply appears in official balances versus private surveys.
